The Johnston Electorate office is commencing a policy internship program for experienced researchers or policy professionals, or graduates and students who have experience producing high quality policy analysis.
Justine was elected in 2024 on a platform of Integrity, Community and Action. As an Independent MLA, there is no funding for policy staff, but as a Community Independent she leads a large and active volunteer base. With a background in law and mediation, Justine has broad-ranging agenda for social justice, environmental protection, strong democratic processes and integrity in the NT parliament.
Internships are offered for 1 to 4 weeks, and can be based in Darwin or completed remotely as appropriate for the allocated project. Full time or part time arrangements will be considered. This is a volunteer position.
Essential Criteria:
- Graduate or current student of Law, Public Policy, Politics or other relevant field;
- Experience in research and/or policy in a parliamentary, law reform or advocacy context;
- Excellent project management, research and writing skills;
- Ability and willingness to work both independently and within in a small, supportive team.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in and/or knowledge of issues facing Darwin, or other regional or north-Australian communities;
- Experience collaborating with community sector organisations in a research or policy context.
