Territorians have the right to know how our money is spent, whether government programs are actually improving people’s lives, and that powerful jobs and decisions are made on merit, not given to mates.

To the Northern Territory Chief Minister and Government,

Territorians deserve a government they can trust.

We demand that integrity and accountability are strengthened by:

Opening the books
We receive billions in federal funding every year to address disadvantage and poverty across the NT. Territorians deserve to know whether that money is actually reaching the people and communities who need it most.

Ending jobs for mates
Government positions must be awarded fairly and to the best candidates – not through personal connections.

Ending gifts and benefits for government decision-makers
Decision-makers must not accept gifts or benefits that could influence their decisions. Territorians should be confident that public interest, not personal gain, drives every decision.

Measuring what works and holding programs to account
The Auditor-General must have the power to properly assess whether the government is operating effectively, so we know what works and what needs to change. 

Strengthening our lobbyist register and opening Ministerial diaries
So Territorians know who is trying to influence government, when, and how.

Reforming political donations
Cap political donations, ban donations from industries seeking government contracts, and require real-time public disclosure of all political funding. 

Protecting whistleblowers
Strengthen laws so that public servants and community members can safely report corruption and wrongdoing without fear of losing their jobs or facing legal action.

Setting clear standards for political behaviour
Establish and enforce a binding code of conduct for Members of the Legislative Assembly, with independent oversight and meaningful consequences for those who breach it.
